This very original work flows out of the page like a stream of high-density machine gun shrapnel, mowing down the unsacred cows of urban decay as part of a mysteriously pointed tale of a sacrificial wrong. It has the dreamlike stream-of-consciousness feel of time flowing backwards and forwards at the same time, eating its own tail. It reads almost like prose, scattered images in tiny bite-sized poetic phrases. It grabs you from the first page, and doesn't let you go. A super-concentrated soul cleanser with the refreshing sting and aroma of vinegar.
The author says it took him 15 years to write this, through a process of distillation that is painstaking and slow. But somehow all this slow cooking produces a heady run on the page. It's a novel written from painful interior spaces but it's also right out there in the world, moving and shifting the ground as it goes. It's the work of a very original mind (and a very witty intelligence).
